Cuba Mission Helping Hand

During the University of Findlay spring break, David May ’26 traveled to Cuba with a team of 24 to serve the Cuban people through evangelism and community outreach. Despite the ongoing fuel shortages, power outages, and uncertainty surrounding travel, David and the group still chose to go, serve, and provide a helping hand to those in need.

Throughout the week, the team split into smaller ministry groups. Two groups focused on preaching and teaching the Bible, while three other groups went into villages for street and home ministries. David’s group partnered with a local nurse who also served as the village social worker and children’s minister. Together, they visited homes, prayed with families, encouraged believers, and shared the Gospel with those facing physical and spiritual hardships.

One of the most impactful moments of the trip for David came when the team helped unload 36 tons of rice that would later be distributed to all the churches across Cuba during the ongoing fuel crisis. Despite the exhausting conditions, David said the experience reminded him what service truly looks like. “We were sweaty, tired, and exhausted, but standing there praying over every single box of rice reminded me that even the smallest acts of service can make an impact far beyond what we can see,” he shared.

Each evening, the groups hosted Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs that quickly grew through word of mouth, eventually between the five groups, the Gospel was shared with more than 200 children across several villages.

Reflecting on the trip, David shared, “What impacted me the most was seeing people who had so little still have so much joy, faith, and love for others. It reminded me that the Gospel reaches people everywhere, no matter their circumstances, and that sometimes God calls us to step out in faith even when things feel uncertain. Cuba changed my heart, strengthened my faith, and reminded me how powerful it is when people simply come together to love and serve others in the name of Jesus!”

Theta Chi Eta Mu is proud to see brothers like David living out the values of helping hands and service beyond campus.
